PRESS RELEASE - ASIAN LADY BEETLES

ASIAN LADY BEETLES SWARMING HOMES IN TRI-STATE AREA
Local pest control expert gives advice on how to deal with them

Cincinnati, OH (October 8, 2003), Arriving just in time for fall, Carol Kauscher of D’Bug Lady Pest Management Co. reports that in the past few days Asian Lady Beetles have been swarming homes and businesses on the Western side of Cincinnati, with a few reports on the East side. She also reports that the Asian Lady Beetle infestations she has treated in Indiana recently are particularly aggressive this year. Kauscher wants tri-state residents and businesses to be aware of them, know what to expect and to take precautions to deal with their arrival. She also offers advice on curtailing the problem and a new product out on the market this year that traps them.

Asian Lady Beetles are small, oval about ¼ inches long and they have a yellow-orange to dark orange red color, with several black spots on their wing cover. A native Asian insect, they were brought to the United States to help control the Aphid population in the mid 1990s. The beetles are typically attracted to the sunnier, southwestern side of lighter colored buildings. Homes and buildings surrounded by trees are especially prone to infestation. They like to hibernate in the cracks and crevices around windows, door frames, in attics, porches, garages, siding and roof shingles. If stressed, Asian Beetles will emit an orange, foul smelling fluid that can stain walls and surfaces. They have been known to pinch skin as they crawl on your body.

D’BugLady recommends homeowners and businesses that spot Asian Lady Beetles in their dwelling, to immediately contact a pest control professional before the insects become a nuisance. “If you see two one day, the next day, you could see hundreds or thousands and most people find them very annoying,” said Ms. Kauscher. D’BugLady has already successfully treated Asian Lady Beetles in nursing homes, schools and homes. Pest control professionals will treat the outside of the home or business with a chemical that the insects walks on, that will eventually cause their demise. The newest product on the market available to consumers attracts the insects to a light disguised as a trap, causing them to fall into the water and die.

Located in Western Hills since 1993, D’BugLady Pest Management’s first priority is eliminate insects, rodents, and other pests that invade our private space. D'BugLady uses natural and the least toxic products available to rid residences and businesses of unwanted pests, including the tri-state’s Asian Lady Beetles. Fully insured and experienced, the company is licensed in Ohio and Indiana. In addition to businesses and single-family homes, the company services nursing homes, buses, and apartment buildings. Owner Carol Kauscher can be frequently seen around town in her yellow Volkswagen “Bug Mobile” or giving educational seminars about natural and least toxic pest management and the environment.
